The Porsche Macan EV Lineup is Growing With Two New Variants

by

Porsche showed off the new Macan EV earlier this year, but there were only two expensive variants announced. Now, the automaker has revealed two new versions, including a rear-wheel drive model with a surprisingly “reasonable” price tag.

The Macan EV RWD’s electric motor produces up to 355 horsepower, while the Macan 4S gets 509 horsepower. Starting pricing for the base RWD trim lands at $77,295, and the 4S at $86,895. The RWD model sees 335 horsepower most of the time, but its temporary overboost function pushes output to 355 ponies. That power is good enough for a 5.4-second 0-60 mph time, and the lack of a front drive motor cuts weight by more than 240 pounds.

The new 4S trim produces 442 horsepower in normal operation, but its overboost function sends power to 509. The SUV can run 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds with a top speed of 149 mph. Adaptive suspension and dampers with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) are standard for both.

Though no electric Macan is likely to leave the road, Porsche will offer an off-road design package that brings a new bumper with an improved approach angle of 17.5 degrees. Porsche also equips 21-inch off-road wheels and unique side skirts, along with other body components.

None of the Macan EV variants are cheap, but the option to slide in under the $80,000 mark to start is a significant plus for potential buyers. That said, the market is growing with cheaper, comparable performance options from several other automakers, so the Macan might not be so compelling, even with the lower price.
