Racetracks changing hands isn’t a story that always comes with a happy ending, but we’re hoping that the sale of Willow Springs Raceway in California ends positively. The track is listed on Loopnet after being owned by the same family for 62 years.

The track is listed without a price, but in reading the listing, it’s clear that the sellers intend to find a buyer who will keep the track open. The sellers also included “investment opportunities” that suggest upgrades and changes to improve the facilities and boost revenues.

The entire Willow Springs complex is for sale, which spans 600 acres and holds seven tracks. There’s also a racing school, several garages, offices, dining spaces, a gift shop, and restrooms. The site also has RV hookups and a fueling station.

Though it’s pretty far out in the desert, the space stays busy hosting track days, races, filming, and automaker drive events. Its location makes it unlikely that someone would consider developing the land for housing or other purposes, but it’s hard not to worry that a new owner might fundamentally change the track in an effort to modernize it. A big part of the track’s appeal is its affordable track day pricing, which makes it accessible for a wide range of car people, so let’s hope the new owner doesn’t go too crazy with the “investment opportunities.”
