land rover opens waitlist for the upcoming range rover electric

Land Rover has done some funky things with its product catalog recently, splitting each main vehicle line into its own “brand.” While that hasn’t changed much other than its website layout, the company is starting to branch out with electrification that could push the individual models further apart. The Range Rover Electric is coming soon, and the automaker recently opened the wait list for its gas-free flagship SUV.

Electrification makes sense for the Range Rover, as it’s the most luxurious model in Land Rover’s lineup. The automaker said it would offer performance similar to the current V8 model and promised that it would retain the off-road capabilities for which the brand is known.

Details are sparse at this point, but Land Rover has noted an 800-volt electrical architecture and the quietest, most refined Range Rover yet. Electric drivetrains are always less noisy than their gas counterparts, but Land Rover is employing active noise cancellation and cabin insulation to further cocoon passengers in luxury.

Land Rover will build the SUV on its new electric platform in the UK, where it currently makes other plug-in Range Rovers. It will manufacture the batteries and electric drive units at a new Jaguar-Land Rover facility in the country. It noted millions of pounds of investments to build electric components for both brands.
