Though it’s an American automaker, Ford has pushed the Ranger further forward in other markets than in its home country. The company offers several forbidden-fruit Ranger variants in other countries, and the latest is its new plug-in hybrid truck for European countries. It also has stunning specs that outdo one of the higher-profile Ranger performance models.
Ford revealed the truck at the 2025 IAA Transportation Show in Germany. The new Ranger PHEV arrives in a Stormtrak launch edition, which uses the same turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder from other models, plus a 75 kW electric motor. Output lands at 275 horsepower and 509 pound-feet of torque, and for those of you counting, that’s more torque than the stock Ranger Raptor, though Americans can buy a Ford-backed tune that pushes its output to 536 pound-feet.
The Ranger PHEV offers 28 miles of all-electric range on the WLTP cycle, and the truck has Ford’s useful Pro Power Onboard generator system. It also delivers 2,204 pounds of payload capacity and 7,716 pounds of towing.
Ford equips a B&O sound system, a surround-view camera, and matrix LED headlights. European buyers can also add Ford’s Pro Trailer Backup Assist system, and the launch model gets an exclusive Chill Grey paint option.
Production of the new truck is expected to begin early next year in South Africa. We don’t yet know if Ford plans to bring the pickup to the United States, but a potential launch would likely happen late next year, if at all.
